The Yamaha XSR 125 is the smallest bike in Yamaha’s XSR line-up and was recently launched in Europe. At present, the Yamaha XSR family consists of four motorcycles with strong retro styling but are based on modern platforms.
The XSR family currently consist of four motorcycles, the XSR900 as the top-shelf offering, the XSR700 as an affordable mid-range performer, the entry-level XSR125 and a slightly more powerful XSR155.
In terms of looks, the new Yamaha XSR125 looks very classy with some really cool looking retro touches like a pair of round headlamps and tail lamps, aluminium brackets and a very premium tucked seat.
Underneath the retro theme, the XSR125 is actually based on the Yamaha MT-125 and R125, it also uses an identical liquid-cooled, four-valve 124cc single cylinder petrol engine with a 6-speed gearbox. The peak power and torque figures are also identical with 15bhp being produced at 10,000rpm and 11.5Nm at 8,000rpm.
However, unlike the R125, the steering geometry is slightly relaxed and uses slimmer 37mm USD forks (R125 uses 41mm USD forks) and the motorcycle weighs in at just 140kgs. Even though a lot of automotive journalists and enthusiasts crave the Yamaha XSR125 in India, Yamaha has not confirmed anything regarding its launch.
We believe that Yamaha will go ahead with the FZ based retro themed bike, the Yamaha FZ-X.
Thoughts On Yamaha XSR125 Being Launched
It is very disappointing to know that Yamaha has not yet considered bringing the XSR125 into the Indian market. If launched in the Indian market, the Yamaha XSR125 would be a great competitor to the KTM 125 Duke.
