Toyota is marking the 40th year of its 4Runner sport-utility with a special 2023 40th Anniversary Edition, and you’d better order it soon if you want one, because only 400 will be available for the Canadian market.
The special edition will be based on the SR5 trim and come in white, black or red. It will have 17-inch bronze-coloured wheels, a Toyota heritage grille matching the body colour, and 40th Anniversary tailgate badge.

Most notable will be the graphics package, created specifically for the model. The retro-style graphics pay homage to those who raced Toyota pickups back in the day — since the 4Runner was originally based on a two-door truck with rear seats and a removable fiberglass body shell over the bed. It went into production in 1983.
The second-generation 4Runner of 1990 was still based on a pickup but with a complete body; and the third generation of 1996 saw it get its own chassis. A fourth generation arrived for 2003, and the current-generation 4Runner dates from 2009. It’s still body-on-frame and off-road capable, but with a much smoother ride and nicer interior than the first one four decades ago.
The special-edition 2023 model includes a standard sunroof, interior badges, bronze-coloured seat stitching, and a 40th Anniversary logo on the seats. Pricing will be announced closer to launch
