Buying a new car is a big decision due to their hefty price tags. When you spend several thousands of dollars on a product, you want to ensure you’ll be satisfied with your choice. Consumer Reports seeks to help people choose the right car by creating a rating called the Predicted Overall Owner Satisfaction by collecting tons of data points from real owners and reviewing the model itself. For the 2022 model year, CR predicted that one luxury compact sedan would not leave owners satisfied.

CR Predicted Owner Satisfaction doesn’t always line up with owners’ actual opinions

Consumer Reports releases a Predicted Overall Owner Satisfaction rating on many different vehicles. According to the CR website, Predicted Overall Owner Satisfaction seeks to measure whether people who bought a car would decide to repurchase it if they had a do-over. CR collects numerous data points and asks detailed questions to owners of the vehicles before they give ratings of this kind. CR’s predictions can later be compared to the actual owner satisfaction ratings once owners have had their cars long enough to provide an assessment.

In many cases, CR’s Predicted Overall Owner Satisfaction is right on the money. In others, CR predicted people wouldn’t be satisfied with a certain vehicle, but actual owners generally agreed they would repurchase it if given the choice. This seems to happen most when CR predicts low reliability or value, but customers are satisfied with their choice anyway. For example, Consumer Reports found that owners were most satisfied with vehicles from Tesla and Porsche despite having abysmal ratings for value.

In the luxury sedan class, there was only one that CR disliked and also predicted owners wouldn’t be satisfied with.

Consumer Reports predicts owners will not be happy with the 2022 Cadillac CT5 luxury sedan

there’s only 1 terrible luxury compact sedan that consumer reports predicts owners will hate

2023 Cadillac CT5 Premium Luxury | Cadillac

The luxury compact sedan market has some fierce competition, including the 2022 Audi A4, the 2022 BMW 3 Series, and the Tesla Model 3. Consumer Reports gave all of these cars high marks on road tests, and each landed on the higher end of the Predicted Overall Owner Satisfaction scale. The vehicle that landed at the bottom in the Predicted Overall Owner Satisfaction scale for luxury compact sedans was the 2022 Cadillac CT5.

This doesn’t mean that the CT5 received the worst road test score. It just means that the reviewers at Consumer Reports don’t believe people who buy this car will be happy they did years down the road. So, why does CR seem to think the CT5 won’t make owners happy?

Pros and cons of the 2022 Cadillac CT5

When the reviewers at Consumer Reports tested the 2022 Cadillac CT5, they gave the luxury sedan high marks for its handling and braking. The reviewers also appreciated the comfort of the front seat but were disappointed with the space given in the back seat, especially the headroom. The road test also showed that the 2022 Cadillac CT5 has a loud engine and that the transmission doesn’t accelerate smoothly in most conditions.

As for negatives, the CT5 received poor to middling scores regarding fuel economy, cargo space, and rear seat comfort. However, what really dragged down the scores for the Cadillac CT5 was its reliability issues and overall value rating.

Because the Cadillac CT5 starts at $37,295, it seems like it would be hard to be satisfied with a car that has such problems. This is especially true when so many excellent luxury compact sedans are free from these problems and cost the same or only a couple thousand more than the CT5 to start. In the end, you can simply get a better bang for your buck with other cars on this list.
