We know that the Toyota Tacoma is due for some significant updates, but it still holds up as the best-selling midsize truck. While we could see a new Toyota Tacoma model soon, hopefully, one super outdated feature will be quickly corrected.
Does the Toyota Tacoma have a good navigation system?

The current Toyota Tacoma tech is adequate. It mostly works, but Torque News pointed out that the GPS system is terrible. It’s much better to use a smartphone for navigation because Tacoma’s system hasn’t been updated in years.
Tacoma owners shared that the GPS will regularly take you in the wrong direction, and it takes a few blocks to kick in. It will take you on the longest route during road trips and start to lag, causing people to miss turns or take exit ramps too early.
Some drivers can use their iPhone with Apple Car Play as a solution, but the system has trouble connecting to Android Auto. Android phones can be connected via Bluetooth, but then the infotainment screen can’t be used for other functions.
But Toyota has better tech. We’ve tested the navigation system in the Toyota Sienna, and it’s epic. When you get low on gas, it automatically suggests the closest gas stations.
The next-generation Toyota Tacoma should have a few software updates, but the navigation could be placed on a subscription model. Would you pay for a new system or keep using your phone?
What tech comes with the Tacoma?
The entry-level 2022 Toyota Tacoma features a 7.0-inch touchscreen, and other trims have an 8.0-inch unit. It features updated graphics that look great and faster response times. The map is supposed to be faster too.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa connectivity are standard. You can opt for the built-in navigation system, but it might not be worth it unless you travel to areas without cellphone range.
You can opt for the wireless phone charging pad, but the Tacoma doesn’t offer a mobile Wifi hotspot like a few of its competitors do. The JBL audio system provides premium sound.
The digital gauge cluster provides crucial information, and you can add a panoramic camera to easily navigate around obstacles. The truck only has two USB ports and no USB-C port. But you can opt for a 120V outlet in the bed.
Of course, the tech for off-roading is unmatched thanks to Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain View, an electronically controlled rear locking differential, TRD-tuned Fox Internal Bypass Shocks, and more.
What to expect with the new Tacoma

The next-generation Toyota Tacoma could arrive in 2023. It would be the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, and based on spy photos, it could look like a baby version of the Toyota Tundra Hybrid. On that note, it’s also safe to expect new power train options.
It’s possible that the Tacoma could go hybrid or fully electric. The current engines are pretty outdated, and they aren’t exactly fuel efficient. Some rumors have mentioned a new diesel engine, but it might not come to America.
Also, the brand new interior will be packed with new technology. A larger infotainment screen will be placed near a new digital gauge cluster, and a head-up display is possible. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto should come standard.
