The Rivian R1T rocketed the pickup truck market into the future. There is nothing on the road today that has pushed its segment’s innovation quite like the 2022 Rivian R1T has done. This pickup truck has supercar-like acceleration, can off-road with the best of them, and can still tow 11,000 pounds. The 2022 Rivian R1T blew Consumer Reports away. From performance to comfort, the Rivian R1T is a force to reckon with.

It’s impressive when any car company can make a game-changing new model. But how much more impressive is it when an EV startup makes a car that launches the form forward?

The Rivian R1T is a performance powerhouse that continues to wow testers repeatedly.

How much does the Rivian R1T Cost?

Before we get too far down the road here, we must address the elephant in the room. Rivian recently bumped UP the price of the R1T a significant amount. The starting price for the Rivian R1T was $67,500, but as a part of a plan to add a new dual-motor set up in 2024, the cost of the R1T shot up to $84,000.

Despite all of the wonderful features and high-quality design, $84,000 is frankly an absurd price tag for most people in this country. Not to mention, the R1T can easily climb from there, depending on what options you go with.

Consumer Reports rented the 2022 Rivian R1T Adventure Package. MSRP for this model is $73,000. It is powered by the quad-motor setup making an insane 835 hp powering all four wheels.

The Consumer Reports tester is loaded with incredible options and features like Quad-Motor AWD, $6,000; large battery pack, $6,000; 20-inch all-terrain tires w/dark wheels, $3,500; Red Canyon paint, $2,500; reinforced underbody shield, $2,000; full-sized spare tire, $900. These options add up to an eye-watering $20,900, plus the $1,500 destination charge, bringing the grand total to $95,400. However, there is the $7,500 federal EV tax credit to keep in mind.

What does Consumer Reports think about the first electric pickup truck?

Consumer Reports loved the Rivian R1T. Aside from the impressive spec sheet, the R1T really proves itself on the road. Adaptive dampers adjust to either give soft, comfortable riding or a stiffer, sportier feel. This air suspension can also raise the truck’s ground clearance from 7.5 inches to 15 inches.

Talking about the Rivian R1T with any sense of brevity is difficult because every aspect of this electric pickup truck is worth talking about. The interior, drivetrain, suspension, towing, payload, off-road, on-road, style, and extra features are firing on all cylinders.

For Consumer Reports to be wowed by anything, much less a pickup truck, should make all of us stop and pay attention.
