The 2019 Triumph Speed Twin cherry picks the best parts from the brand’s modern classic line to build what looks like one hell of a motorcycle.

Triumph finally unveiled the all-new 2019 Speed Twin. While there’s no mistaking it for a Triumph, the brand cherry picks the best parts from its modern classic line to build what looks like one hell of a motorcycle.

In the design department, the Speed Twin 1200 is everything you’d expect from Triumph. The design elements featured on the new bike aren’t huge departures from the rest of the lineup — not that it’s at all bad or boring. It borrows bits from the Bonneville and Street Twin and incorporates a few tweaks to take on a racier character. Design aside, the big news here stems from the ‘1200’ part of the new bike’s name.

Triumph fitted the new Speed Twin with its latest and greatest 1,200cc parallel-twin engine and an engine tune similar to that found in the Thruxton cafe racer. That means the new bike gets 96 horsepower and 83 lb-ft of torque. In addition to Thruxton-level power, the Speed Twin gets its own set of upgrades to further separate itself. New magnesium cam and engine covers pair with a new clutch assembly to help reduce the bike’s overall weight by around 22-lbs, bringing it down to 432-lbs. More power and less weight is always a winning combo.

To help get everything under control, the Speed Twin gets front and rear Kayaba shocks and four-piston Brembo brakes up front. In keeping with the modern-classic theme, while Triumph saw fit to give the Speed Twin its brand-standard Sport, Road, and Rain riding modes, it decided to go analog with the dual-dial gauge cluster, eschewing the industry-popular TFT display.

Price wasn’t announced at the unveiling, but according to Triumph, that information will be posted on January 18 of next year.

the new triumph speed twin is a bonneville with more performance
