The Frontier has long been Nissan’s mid-size truck. And for nearly two decades, it remained largely the same as it was still in its second generation. For 2022, Nissan has finally revealed the third-generation Frontier, and it is a serious competitor. Coming with a standard V6 engine, revised styling, and more modern features, the 2022 Frontier is a truck that should be on everyone’s radar who is in search of a new mid-size truck. With models like the Toyota Tacoma on the market, that is not something that has always been said.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier worth it?

The new Nissan Frontier has a starting cost of under $28,690, and even non-base models offer a good value proposition. Because of this, the new Frontier is a mid-size truck that is worthy of consideration. For under $30,000, you can get a pickup with a standard V6 engine. According to Car and Driver, his powerplant makes 310 horsepower and 281 pound-foot of torque, which is ample power for the price.

Additionally, when properly equipped the 2022 Frontier can tow up to 6,720 lbs. That may not be as much as some of the competition, but it should be enough for most shoppers who are searching for a mid-size truck.

The Frontier has an off-road trim

If there is one thing that mid-size pickup buyers like, it’s a truck that can handle the road less traveled. The 2022 Frontier PRO-4X is an off-road truck with serious capability. It comes with things like skid plates, off-road gauges, and even an electronic locking rear differential. This will help you to maintain traction when you have your truck out on the trails.

To some, the PRO-4X may be too much truck, and Nissan has the answer for that. With the PRO-X model, buyers get a truck with rear-wheel drive that can still handle some light off-roading. It is also cheaper than the full PRO-4X with a cost of $35,120.

A feature that is notably lacking from the 2022 Frontier is a manual transmission. In the past, buyers could opt for hand-made shifts but that is no longer the case. If you want a truck with a standard transmission, you will need to look at something like the Toyota Tacoma or Jeep Gladiator.

Can you buy a 2022 Nissan Frontier?

As supply chain issues continue to impact auto manufacturers, it is possible to buy a new Nissan Frontier. This mid-size truck is now available to purchase at a dealership or to place a custom order, which is not the case for every new truck, especially the Ford Maverick.

The new Frontier is available in multiple trim levels, allowing purchases to get the right amount of truck for their specific needs. These trims range from the work-spec Nissan Frontier S to the Frontier PRO-4X. Perhaps the best value may be the Frontier SV.

The SV trim is available in a variety of configurations. It can be had with four-wheel drive as well as a longer bed for more hauling capacity. Both cab variants can also be had depending on what you require from your pickup truck.
