Callaway has a long-standing tradition of taking the Chevrolet Corvette and pushing it to new performance peaks. Cars like the C5-inspired Callaway C12 are faster, sharper versions of the already formidable Chevy sports car. However, the latest Corvettes are nothing short of supercars, and Callaway aims to take them even further. Callaway plans to offer a supercharged C8 Corvette package through its dealer network.
Can you supercharge a C8 Corvette?
Like nearly any other car, you can add forced induction if you’re determined enough. However, with a mid-engine C8 Corvette, there are a few challenges. First, unlike any other Corvette or other V8-powered American coupes, the engine sits behind the driver. Next, with how new the design of the C8 is, owners didn’t have the luxury of immediately available aftermarket supercharger kits like those available for the front-mounted Ford Coyote V8. However, where there’s a will, there’s a way, and Callaway Cars has a will.

Callaway is offering a TripleCooled® Supercharger System for the C8’s mid-mounted LT2 engine. “This upgrade is designed for those looking to reliably increase the already-outstanding performance of their C8 Corvette,” Callaway Cars claims. That’s good news for fans of Chevrolet’s first mid-engine Corvette. Finally, Callaway says that all “in-service” C8 model years are eligible for the “2nd Chance” supercharger program.
How much horsepower does a supercharger add to a Corvette?
There are many different sizes and types of superchargers to add mass quantities of horsepower to an engine. For instance, MotorTrend tested the results of adding a centrifugal supercharger from ProCharger to a C8 Corvette. The simple kit added 150 horsepower to the C8’s nearly 500 horsepower stock configuration. While modern supercars tend to make more horsepower than a stock C8, the Corvette’s 2.8-second launch to 60 mph is more than commendable.

It’s true; adding a supercharger to an engine can increase engine components’ stress. However, there’s no reason why a supercharger can’t be a tenable, horsepower-boosting application. If something goes wrong, a manufacturer’s warranty could cover your forced-induction system. For instance, Callaway Cars offers a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty with an option for extension.
Better yet, Callaway Cars says GM service centers can perform maintenance tasks on its kits. However, if you want this out-of-the-box kit, you’ll have to reserve one before they’re gone.
Will there be a supercharged C8 Corvette?
It’s unclear whether Chevrolet will produce a supercharged C8 Corvette akin to the C7 Z06 or ZR1. However, General Motors already confirmed the naturally-aspirated, flat-plane-crank C8 Z06, which promises a supercar soundtrack. Additionally, Chevrolet has hinted at an AWD hybrid Corvette with incredible potential.
The hybrid culprit might be a twin-turbocharged flat-plane-crank V8 engine with electric drive to the front wheels. Better yet, the top-tier hybrid V8 supercar might carry the name “Zora,” after one of the engineering champions of the Chevrolet Corvette.
