It’s Ford’s fourth major recall in less than a month, but this time the affected vehicles are more than 198,000 of its full-size Expedition SUVs and the related Navigator SUV from its luxury sub-brand Lincoln. Though the risk of fire is the same as a May safety missive that also recalled the Expedition and Navigator, the culprit this time is a blower motor.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2015-17 Expeditions and Navigators. The front blower motor located behind the glove box, a component that helps power the defroster and air-conditioning system, may fail. Such a failure can increase the risk of a vehicle interior fire.
The remedy is straightforward: Dealers will replace the front blower motor assembly for free. Ford will begin notifying owners Sept. 12, but those with questions can call the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 22S56), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
