owners say hyundai leads in in-car tech

Hyundai leads all other carmakers when it comes to in-car tech. This is based on the latest 2022 J.D. Power Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study. Hyundai is the leading mass market brand and fourth overall, while luxury brand, Genesis is ranked highest overall.

The J.D.Power TXI Innovation Index provides a single measure that includes both penetration levels of advanced technologies (Market Depth) and consumers assessment of the quality of execution of these advanced technologies across a brand (Excellence in Execution). Both measures are of equal weight—consumers want new technology, but they want it to work well.

The Technology Experience Index (TXI) Study measures how effectively each automotive brand brings technologies to market, measured on a 1,000-point scale and analyzes 35 technologies, which are divided into four categories: convenience; emerging automation; energy and sustainability; and infotainment and connectivity.

The 2022 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study is based on responses from 84,165 owners of new 2022 model-year vehicles who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study was fielded from February through May 2022.

Among mass market brands, Hyundai topped all other brands with a score of 534. Sister brand, Kia is in second with 495, followed by Buick (482), GMC (482), and Subaru (482) all tied for third.

Meanwhile, when it comes to premium brands, Genesis ranks highest with a score of 643, followed by Cadillac (584), and Mercedes-Benz (539).

When it comes to individual models, the Cadillac Escalade received the convenience award for its camera-based rearview mirror technology in the premium segment, while the Subaru Ascent (aka Evoltis) did the same for the mass market brands.

The Lexus IS received the nod for emerging automation for its front cross traffic warning in the premium segment, while the Mitsubishi Outlander’s reverse automatic emergency braking helped it snag the award for the mass market segment.

The MINI Cooper receives the award for energy and sustainability with its one-pedal driving tech

Finally, the BMW X3 receives the award for infotainment and connectivity in the premium segment for its phone-based digital key.
