The SUV has done around 11.5k km over the past year of ownership.
BHPian pankaj_9730 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
I recently noticed some oil leak near the front axle (driver side wheel). I don’t see any oil dripping at my parking spot, but the dark black colour shown in the pictures below is the oil. What could be the reason for this, what is broken and how serious could it be?
This is on my 2021 Jeep Compass.

Here’s what BHPian Mr.Boss had to say on the matter:
Looks like gearbox end oil seal failure. What is the mileage?
It’s an easy fix. Reach out to your ASC or FNG
Here’s what BHPian DRIV3R had to say on the matter:
Since your car is a year old, I presume you did a service recently with an engine oil change. Nothing to worry about, it should be residual oil dropped from the old oil filter while removing it. Yes Compass MJD 2.0 has a weird placement for the oil filter. To understand better, please watch below.
EDIT: I guess the leak is on the LHS for your vehicle. Cannot be the oil filter residue if so. As Mr.Boss pointed could be from the transmission.
Here’s what BHPian dhanushs had to say on the matter:
Please also check the driveshaft boot. The wetness could be the grease leaking out.
