The latest creation from the brand that sports Neptune’s Trident on its badge has officially broken cover after being teased and features a lot more sky and the same Nettuno V6 from before. Say hello to the Maserati MC20 Cielo.

In addition to the unveiling of the new performance piece in Maserati’s lineup, the brand will also offer the PrimaSerie (Italian for first series) which will have a limited production run of 60 units. AS part of the limited edition model, buyers will be able to spec theirs in an exclusive new Acquamarina exterior paint finish which forms part of the Maserati Fuoriserie customization program, combining pastel gray with iridescent aquamarine mica.

Here is the MC20 Cielo’s introduction to the video world.

The model receives ice-colored Alcantara and leather on the inside with aquamarine stitching on the dashboard. The PrimaSerie text is embossed onto the headrests and can be found on the 20-inch wheels too.

The design changes to the newcomer are far more than skin deep, especially when considering that the carbon-fibre monocoque of the model has three different variants; one for the coupe, the convertible Cielo shown here and the soon-to-be-EV. The focus on the monocoque for the Cielo focused on increasing rigidity as not to compromise on weight and performance, job well done considering the Maserati MC20 Cielo weights only 65 kg more than its fixed roof counterpart.

When it comes to the visible exterior, the cabrio boasts an automated retractable roof that can open and close in 12 seconds. Maserati boasts that the chromatic glass panel built into it can instantly turn from transparent to opaque compliments of polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) technology – a segment first. In other places, the drop-top has relocated the engine air intakes. New double-X-styled wheels, fashioned from diamond-cut alloy will be available along with carbon-fibre rims that can drop as much as 30 kg from its overall weight. The Maserati MC20 Cielo hasn’t deviated too greatly from the coupe and it still keeps its statement-piece butterfly doors.

Under the Trident-decaled hood lies the same Nettuno V6 that is found in the MC20 coupe. The 3-litre motor is good for 456 kW and 730 N.m compliments of F1 inspired tech. The motor will be paired to a solitary eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox which is geared to push the drop top Italian in excess of 320 km/h.
