Both single- and dual-motor variants of the new Kia EV6 have received a five-star safety rating

The Kia EV6 has just been awarded a five-star safety rating from ANCAP, which applies to all variants of the electric car.

The EV6 scored well for adult occupant protection, achieving a result of 90 percent in that department. Child occupant protection received a score of 87 percent, while vulnerable road user protection was 64 percent and safety assist scored an impressive 88 percent.

Adult occupant protection scored 34.48 out of a possible 38 points, with only frontal offset and rear whiplash protection being singled out as slight downsides.

The Kia EV6 scored well in most areas of the ANCAP test

Child protection scored 42.96 out of a possible 49 points, with dynamic front protection scoring a perfect 16 out of 16, but onboard features scoring only 8 out of 13.

Vulnerable road user scores didn’t fare as well, making 35.08 out of a possible 54. The downsides in this area included head impact which scored just 12.37 out of 24, upper leg impact scoring 2.37 out of 6, and backover AEB scoring zero.

Safety assist was good, however, scoring 14.17 points out of a possible 16. Occupant status and AEB junction assist both scored perfect points, with lane support systems scoring 3.25 out of a possible 4 points.

The Kia EV6 was very similar in score to the related Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Kia EV6 comes standard with dual front, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting curtain airbags, along with a standard central airbag that protects the front two occupants.

Autonomous emergency braking, as well as lane support with lane-keep assist, lane departure warning and emergency lane keeping are all standard across all variants in the EV6 range.

The Kia EV6 scored very similar numbers to that of its related Hyundai Ioniq 5 cousin, however the Kia EV6 scored slightly better in adult protection and vulnerable road user protection.
