Hoonigan Builds C6 Z06 Supercar Killer on a Budget
The C6 Z06 was a wonder of its time. With Hoonigan’s not-so-extravagant upgrades, it can give today’s supercars a run for their money.
A New Era
The sixth generation of the Corvette marked the beginning of a new era for America’s Sports Car. Not only did GM release a Corvette without pop-up headlights in decades, but they also began to push the platform’s performance potential to astonishing levels, rarely matched by the most exotic of supercars. And it was with the Z06 that a lot of those elevated standards were set.

Top Tier Performance
Powered by the venerable 7.0-liter LS7 motor, the Z06 was capable of 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. With a curb weight of just 3,132 lbs, the Z06’s power-to-weight ratio was mind-boggling for its time. Now sixteen years later, it still holds up as the most formidable performance car one can buy.
Low-Budget and Bolt-On
For the folks at Hoonigan, though, the car was just begging for a few upgrades to take it to the next level. “So, here’s the goal. Build a supercar killer that’s not going to break the bank that we could go take out and mop some people up with,” Zac from Hoonigan remarked about the project. Bolt-on was the name of the game, which makes this undertaking more approachable both from a financial point of view, as well as in terms of in terms of level of difficulty.
More Power
At the core of this project are the power upgrades. The Corvette’s naturally aspirated V8 was given some extra motivation courtesy of an Edelbrock supercharger. A Mishimoto cooling system was equipped to keep the temperatures under control. And the powertrain exhales through a one-off custom exhaust from Magnaflow. The build also features catalytic converters that are legal in all 50 states, meaning the supercar killer can be registered anywhere in the country.
Burnouts
With the power sorted, the attention was turn to the car’s dynamics. BC coilovers suspend the Z06 atop the Cray Astoria wheels. Stopping power comes by way of Power Stop rotors and hawk 5.0 pads. With the car put together, it was time for Hoonigan to do what Hoonigan does best: Burnouts. Output figures are promised for upcoming videos.
