android, honda reveals 2022 civic type r performance figures, ‘small’ boost from fk8r

2023 Honda Civic Type R

Honda has just revealed more information on the 2022 Honda Civic Type R. After unveiling the car back in July, Honda has just released the performance numbers of the latest Civic Type R today.

Carrying over the K20C1 from its predecessor, the 2022 Civic Type R further improves the powertrain with a redesigned turbocharger, increased airflow intake flow rate, and a new more efficient exhaust system that features a straight-through design and an active exhaust valve. These enhancements and some others boost the maximum power by 9hp and the maximum torque by 20 Nm over the ‘older’ FK8 Civic Type R. Honda’s official numbers for the 2022 Civic Type R are 315 hp @6,500 rpm and 420 Nm @2,600-4,000 rpm.

The turbocharger’s geometry has been optimised, allowing for pressure to be generated at a wider range and more efficiently. As for the six-speed manual transmission, Honda has enhanced it with a lighter flywheel, a revised rev match system, a high-rigidity lever, and an optimized shift gate pattern. A helical-type LSD is also present on the 2022 Civic Type R.

Although the above numbers have been revealed, Honda is keeping mum on the Type R’s acceleration time. The only thing we know so far concerning timing is that it clocked a 2:23.120 time on the Suzuka circuit.

As for handling, Honda has widened the track of the Type R over its ‘normal’ counterpart. At the front, the track is wider by 1 inch and at the rear, the track is wider by 0.75 inches. The wheelbase has been extended by 1.4 inches. The Type R also features two-piece front brake rotors.

The body structure of the 2022 Civic Type R is more rigid than its predecessors, and most of the body panels are exclusive to the latest Type R, accommodating the wider track and boosted performance.

Inside, luxuries such as wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, and a Bose Centrepoint Premium Sound system come as standard in the 2022 Type R. Honda’s LogR feature now no longer requires to be connected to a mobile phone. A new feature on the Type R is the ‘individual’ mode on top of the usual ‘Comfort’, ‘Sport’, and ‘R+’.

Honda is offering the Type R in several colours including Historic Championship White, Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl and Sonic Grey Pearl. Pricing and additional details on the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will be provided closer to launch this fall. The new Civic Type R is built at the Yorii Plant in Japan. The Type R’s K20C1 engine continues to be built at Honda’s Anna Engine Plant in Sidney, Ohio.
