Maserati promises a 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds and a top speed over 200 mph.
Maserati has been teasing the world with its first-ever electric car, the GranTurismo Folgore, for months now. The company revealed a handful of specs back in March, and now, thanks to a YouTube video published to the carmaker’s channel on Thursday, we get to see what the car looks like undisguised.
The video, shot during Monterey Car Week, is simply five minutes of head designer Klaus Busse and chief communications officer Maria Conti talking through the car’s features while taking a tour through the beautiful roads surrounding Pebble Beach. Maserati also let comedian Sebastian Maniscalco ride along to crack some jokes here and there, for some reason.
This video is the first piece of media where the public is able to see the new Folgore undisguised, without any camouflage. If we’re being honest, most of the panels seem unchanged versus the previous GranTurismo, which first launched in 2007. The only differences appear to be the revised front end, which borrows heavily from the Grecale crossover, and the bumper, which now features a charging port.
We already knew the GranTurismo Folgore would make up to 1200 hp from a tri-motor all-electric setup. Busse and Conti claim the car will be able to sprint to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, onto a top speed of over 200 mph—up from the initial claim of 186 mph in March.
Strangely, Maserati doesn’t consider this reveal a “premiere,” despite showing the car completely undisguised, discussing technical design, and publishing performance claims. That global premiere, it says, is coming in 2023. The only thing we’re left wondering is what the interior might look like, as it’s blurred out in the video. We’ll just have to wait until next year to find out.
