Well, um, this is unusual isn’t it? Car Twitter went into something of a frenzy this morning as it emerged that a doctor in Austin had used a Rivian R1T pick-up (presumably his) to help perform a vasectomy amid a power outage.
Christopher Yang MD, who is described as ‘a recovering tech geek turned physician’ on his employer’s website, said that his patient “didn’t want to reschedule” the appointment “cause he already had time off”.
And so enter the electric truck, which boasts a quartet of 120V sockets that can be used to power external electronic devices. We’re pretty sure Rivian’s designers mostly had camping gear in mind at the time, but hey, if the plug fits…
According to Yang the “procedure went great!”, and it’ll leave many people wondering just how far vehicle-to-grid technology can be pushed as electric vehicles become more prominent around the globe.
