chery becomes first-ever chinese carmaker to export over 50k units a month

Chery has sold 50,614 vehicles outside of China in July 2022, making it the first-ever Chinese marque to export more than 50,000 vehicles in a single month. The figure represents 38% of its total global sales in July (131,533 units), and a 90.1% increase in exports over the same period last year.

With the July figures accounted for, Chery has now exported nearly 200,000 vehicles in the first seven months of 2022 (+36.8%), or roughly a third of its global sales total so far this year.

The sales performance, in spite of the ongoing challenges caused by the after effects of Covid-19 and logistical difficulties, was largely contributed by Chery’s new SUV line-up, particularly the Tiggo models.

The Tiggo 8 Series saw a total of 31,263 exported in the first seven months of 2022, marking a 43.3% growth over the same period last year. The company adds that the model is also serving as the presidential and state transport in several countries and regions, a testament to the model’s quality and stature.

As for specific country figures, Egypt saw 1,846 Chery vehicles sold in July, boosting its sales total in the country up to 12,591 units in the first seven months of the year. Another highlight for Chery was South Africa, with 1,262 units sold in the month of July to bring the marque’s market share up to 4.01% in the nation, a record high figure for the company.

The Chinese carmaker is reiterating its commitment to its globalisation strategy, and says that it will further strengthen its brand and global operations in the second half of the year. Headlining its globalisation efforts will be the Omoda 5, the first member of Chery’s new global Omoda series, which has also already been confirmed for Malaysia alongside the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro.

Chery is also targetting to launch new energy vehicles (NEV) in 14 countries this year, including Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, covering a variety of powertrains such as pure electric, plug-in hybrid and 48V mild hybrid systems.
