The pre-orders are gone, but you’ll still have a chance.

cadillac sells out pre-orders for lyriq ev

  • Cadillac launched pre-orders for its upcoming Lyriq, which sold out almost immediately.
  • The Cadillac Lyriq is scheduled to start heading to customers later this year and starts at $62,990.
  • These pre-orders set customers back $100 to jump in line, and the deposit is reportedly refundable.

If you’re wondering if there was demand for the Cadillac Lyriq, apparently the answer is a resounding yes. The company has received enough pre-orders for the 2023 model year Lyriq to shut down its pre-ordering process. This might not be a shock to those trying to pre-order the Lyriq’s Debut Edition, which also sold out its reservations almost immediately. While that should have tipped off many to the interest in Cadillac’s upcoming EV, running out of all of the reservations shows that the Debut Edition wasn’t a fluke.

This is impressive, but there is some missing context. The folks at Cadillac haven’t released how many prospective reservations were up for grabs. More importantly, these reservations aren’t sales. These reservations command a refundable $100 deposit, which puts you in line for a Lyriq. If you missed your spot in line, there’s hope: Cadillac is still letting you join a waitlist on the off chance that someone bows out from their reservation.

The buzz surrounding Cadillac’s Lyriq is different than what you’re probably seeing for its Blackwing sedans or recent Escalade-V. While those Cadillac models obviously have earned their attention, the upcoming Lyriq is showing where the company is going. The Ultium battery-electric platform that underpins this Lyriq will see duty in other upcoming battery-electric Cadillacs in the future, which makes the Lyriq even more interesting.

We’ll likely have an idea about how many of these pre-orders transform into sales later this year when these start to hit sales sheets. With the Lyriq starting at $62,990, more than a few of these refundable $100 deposits might head back to customers. But there’s also someone waiting to jump in line.
