Speaking about the weight of the S 1000 R, the naked-sport motorcycle tips the scale at 199kg (kerb) — 6.5kg lighter as compared to the previous model of the motorcycle. BMW could also offer the S 1000 R with the ‘MSport’ package, which includes a couple of carbon-fibre components, which further lowers the weight of the motorcycle by 4.5 kilograms.

The lightness of the S 1000 R is matched with a performance produced from an updated version of the same engine that powered the older models. This is an in-line four-cylinder 998cc engine. It produces a maximum of 162bhp and a peak torque of 114Nm.

The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-assist clutch as standard. Apart from the engine, the gearbox has also been reworked by the brand. The 4th, 5th and 6th gear ratios have been changed to produce more power at lower engine RPMs resulting in better acceleration. The S 1000 R can complete 0 to 100kmph in 3.2 seconds and continue to reach an electronically-limited top speed of 250kmph.

This includes Riding Modes Pro (additional riding modes package), Shift Assist Pro (bi-directional quick shifter), TPMS, keyless entry and a whole lot more.

Thoughts About The BMW S 1000 R India Launch Soon

The BMW S 1000 R is one of the lightest motorcycles in its class much like other models in the brand’s line-up. For 2021 MY, the company has made several changes to make the motorcycle more agile. Once launched in the Indian market, the BMW S 1000 R will rival the Ducati Streetfighter V4 and the Triumph Speed Triple 1200.
