German luxury carmaker BMW has launched the i4 electric sedan in India. The BMW i4 is priced at Rs 69.90 lakhs (ex-showroom) and deliveries will start in July 2022.
BMW i4 India Specs & Range
The BMW is only offering the new i4 for the Indian market in the eDrive40 Sport guise. The BMW i4 eDrive40 is powered by a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels.
The BMW i4’s electric motor produces 335bhp and 430Nm of peak torque. This allows the BMW i4 eDrive Sport to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds and the electric sedan will continue to accelerate till it tops out at 190km/h.
Providing the electrons to the new i4’s motor is an 83.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack that allows the i4 to deliver a range of 590 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. This means that the BMW i4 eDrive40 Sport has the longest range of any electric car currently sold in India.
The BMW i4’s battery pack supports 11kW AC charging which can charge up the lithium-ion pack from 0 to 100 per cent in 8.25 hours. When connected to a 50kW DC fast charger the new i4 can charge its battery pack from 10 to 80 per cent in just 83 minutes. This allows it to add 100 kilometres of range after just 18 minutes of charging.
If you can find a 205Kw DC charger then the i4’s charging speeds become even faster. When plugged into a 205kW DC charger, the BMW i4 eDrive40 Sport can charge its battery pack from 10 to 80 per cent in just 31 minutes. The BMW i4 can add 164 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes.
The BMW i4 is 4,785mm long, 1,852mm wide and 1,448mm tall. The wheelbase of the BMW i4 is 2,856mm long. The electric sedan weighs 2,125 kilogrammes.
BMW i4 Design & Features
The BMW i4 was first revealed back at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show as the BMW i Vision Dynamics concept. A concept bearing the i4 name was introduced 3 years later in 2020 with the production car arriving last year.
In terms of the overall design, the i4 looks quite a lot like the 4-Series coupe sold in international markets. The front-end features the large BMW kidney grilles which are blocked off for the i4 due to the lower cooling requirements of the electric sedan. The i4 rides on 17-inch bi-colour alloy wheels that are shod with 225/55 R17 tyres.
Inside, the new i4 sports the curved dual-display setup first seen on the BMW iX electric SUV. The BMW i4 gets a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Support. The infotainment display is connected to a 17 speaker Harmon Kardon surround sound system and also acts as a display for the reversing camera.
Speaking at the launch of the new BMW i4, Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “With the launch of the BMW i4, I am excited to introduce the first electric mid-size sedan in the country. BMW i4 effortlessly combines sheer driving pleasure with sustainability as never experienced before. Thanks to its unique combination of BMW eDrive technology, extremely slim and high-voltage lithium-ion battery, rear wheel drive and advanced suspension kinematics, the BMW i4 gets an outstanding sporty feel. It is India’s longest range electric vehicle. Absolute luxury with class leading ambience, generous space, and rear axle air suspension ensures maximum comfort even for longer trips. Excitingly dynamic, comfortable and powerful in equal measure, the BMW i4 provides a truly electrifying experience that exceeds all expectations – every day, every trip. BMW Group today offers the most extensive and diverse portfolio of electric cars for Indian customers”.
