The Genesis GV80 stormed onto the scene in 2021 as a new model and promptly won a ton of awards. Then, supply chain issues slowed production, but it looks to be coming full force in 2023 to take on every rival it can. Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, and others probably wish that they could make an SUV that is as stylish and luxurious at the price of a Genesis GV80. Thankfully for 2023, it’s not changing much except for deleting the 2.5T two-wheel drive version, adding some new colors and a new panoramic sunroof, which means there are a lot of reasons to buy a 2022 Genesis GV80 before the 2023 hits the showroom

Sure, it’s not cheap, but this is a luxury SUV after all and the value proposition that the Genesis puts up is a good one compared to other three-row large SUVs. The 2.5T, with all-wheel drive, heated steering wheel, and more, starts at $55,550 with a turbocharged four-cylinder with 300 horsepower. You can step up to a more powerful 375-horsepower V6 in the 3.5T version for $62,700. The top line Advanced is $70,600 and comes with all the tech goodies, including second-row heated seats. That’s a lot of money, but a similarly-equipped Grand Wagoneer can cost near is $100,000

IS the Genesis GV80 safe?

From the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it earned a Top Safety Pick Plus designation. That’s a big deal, and a big achievement for a new-to-the-market SUV. It comes with 10 airbags standard, standard rain sensing wiper, adaptive cruise, and more.

Like any luxury SUV the GV80 has a full slate of driver’s aids. Of course, it comes with rear park assist, pedestrian detection, brake assist and more, like other luxury SUVs. But, if you add the Prestige Package you get some features that, not too long ago, seemed like we were driving in 2030, including a surround-view camera, a blind spot view monitor, and a hands-free highway driving mode.

It looks like a Bentley

When Genesis set out to make an SUV to compete with BMW, Lexus and Mercedes, the designers knew they had to bring it. The GV80 has plush leather, wood trim, and a clean mid-century design that sets it apart from the tech-focused SUVs from the Europeans. The exterior, too, has a large Lexus-inspired grille, but simple chrome touches and taillights that could be stolen from a Bentley that give it a proper luxury look.

Genesis launched the GV80 in 2021 and that means that there isn’t much long-term data yet on its reliability. But, earlier this year the GV80 received the J.D. Power Engineering award for Highest-Rated All-New Vehicle. The award combines the results of the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study and the J.D. Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study, which measures new-vehicle owners’ overall satisfaction with their vehicles within the first 90 days of ownership.
