The all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R was recently unveiled after months of showing up in camo gear. In all honesty, it looks exactly like we thought it would – like an 11th-generation Civic Hatchback with a big wing. However, some of its features are rather eye-catching. Here are five fierce features that make the new Civic Type R more intriguing than the last iteration.

1. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine should have more horsepower

Under the hood of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is the tried-and-true turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. Honda was mum on the engine specs. However, it’s speculated that the car should make around 316 hp. Compare that to the 306 hp it made in its last iteration, and we’ll call that an improvement. Although not a very big one.

2. The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has a more sophisticated look

Let’s face it, the previous Civic Type R’s looks were a bit polarizing. There were fake vents and honeycomb grilles that made it look outlandish, and let’s not forget the large shopping cart rear wing. On the other hand, the new 2023 Civic Type R is based on the 11th-generation Civic, which has a far more sophisticated look than its predecessors. It’s safe to say that the Civic Type R is more grown, and we like that.

3. The red seats look well-bolstered and stylish

The red sport seats are back in the all-new Civic Type R, although they look a little more sporty this time. We’ll have to see what they’re really like when we’re able to test this car in the real world, but for now, those seats set off the interior with a fierce new look.

4. The six-speed manual transmission remains

We never doubted that Honda would equip the new Civic Type R with a six-speed manual transmission. After all, you can’t have a proper sports car without the ability to row the gears yourself. We’re glad that Honda is doing its part to save the manuals and didn’t stick an automatic transmission in its fabled hot hatchback.

5. The rear wing looks a little less gaudy

Remember that shopping-cart-style rear wing on the last Civic Type R? If you thought that it looked a little too flashy, then you might like the new wing found on the 2023 Civic Type R. The rear wing is functional as it provides downforce at higher speeds. But we think that it makes the car look fierce without being too overdone.

There are plenty of more features to adore on the 2023 Honda Civic Type R

While these five features on the 2023 Honda Civic Type R stand out to us, there are plenty more features to like about it. For example, there’s a digital instrument panel, a +R driving mode, and a data logger to track your performance driving stats. We can’t wait to test out this new Type R when it’s available. According to Honda, it should start showing up in dealer showrooms this fall.
