The fourth-gen Kia Sorento that broke cover in February 2020 should receive a comprehensive facelift when it turns three and enters MY2024 in the U.S. The 2024 Kia Sorento will receive a host of updates, both inside and out, and should continue in hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. Here’s what you can expect from the new electrified SUV:

Design

Road-testing of the 2024 Kia Sorento is underway, and spy pictures captured during this process indicate that it will feature a noticeably fresher design. For a preview of the changes expected, we have created a rendering (pictured above).

2024 kia sorento hybrid/phev: what to expect

The 2024 Sorento could have a more confident and contemporary appearance at the front. Pictured is TopElectricSUV’s rendering of the restyled Plug-in Hybrid SUV.

At the front, the facelifted model could have reshaped headlamps and DRLs, a new radiator grille, new inserts in the radiator grille, repositioned fog lights in the ‘L’ shape, a new bumper, and a more prominent skid plate. The new face would be more confident and contemporary but not unconventional. Automakers are increasingly experimenting with split headlamp designs, but Kia is likely to stick with the more familiar one-piece format.

The side profile of the new Sorento would look nearly identical to the 2023 model. The only change at this angle could be new 17- to 20-inch wheels. The wave shape at the base of the C-pillar is a catchy detail on the 2023 model, and you can expect it to be present in the facelift. At the rear, the 2024 Sorento may have tweaked tail lamps and a revised bumper to align it with the new front.

Interior

On the inside, the 2024 Sorento could flaunt a redesigned dashboard that’s more contemporary. The main interior highlight could be new curved and seamless dual 12.3-inch screens freely standing on the dashboard. That would also mean an upsize for the central display, which measures 10.25 inches diagonally in the 2023 model. Another tech upgrade could be a larger, multi-color head-up display that projects an image equivalent to a 10-inch screen (current model: 8.5 inches). Lastly, the new model could feature a digital key as well.

Powertrains

The 2024 Kia Sorento will likely carry over the 1.6-liter T-GDi engine-based hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The hybrid variant, which is available in FWD and AWD drivetrain layouts, produces 227 hp and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. The AWD-only plug-in hybrid variant generates 261 hp and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. These systems could have efficiency-related upgrades in the 2024 model, though.

In the current Sorento, the hybrid variant’s electric motor uses a 1.5 kWh battery, while the plug-in hybrid variant’s electric motor uses a 14 kWh battery. The rechargeable electrified variant can deliver an EPA-est. pure electric range of 32 miles. The 2023 Sorento Hybrid returns an EPA-est. combined fuel economy of 37 MPG (FWD)/34 MPG (AWD), while the 2023 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid‘s EPA-est. combined fuel economy is 79 MPGe. We don’t expect these figures to differ drastically in the facelift.

Price

The 2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid could start at around USD 38,000, while the 2024 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid may cost around USD 51,000 onwards. The current hybrid and plug-in hybrid SUVs retail at USD 36,590 and USD 49,890 in their respective base configurations. All prices exclude destination and handling charges (currently USD 1,295).
