The release date of the 2023 Toyota 4Runner SUV will likely be in late Summer/early Fall 2022. It will be available for sale at Toyota dealerships throughout the United States, as well as in select international markets. The Toyota 4Runner is built in Japan — at Toyota’s plant in Tahara and the subsidiary Hino Motors plant in Hamura.

How much does the 2023 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Toyota didn’t yet release the price information of the 2023 4Runner. However, the 2023 4Runner will likely cost slightly more than the 2022 4Runner. The starting price of the 2022 4Runner ranges from $38,105 MSRP for the SR5 trim up to $52,920 MSRP for the TRD Pro trim.

All 2023 Toyota 4Runner SUV models come equipped with a 4.0-liter V-6 engine. Mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, it generates 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. The SUV is not very efficient, with an estimated fuel economy of up to 16 city/19 highway mpg. Also, the 2023 4Runner can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Additionally, for acceleration, the 4Runner has a 0-60 mph time of 7.7 seconds.

Buyers of the 4Runner have a choice of a front-wheel drive system or a traction-enhancing four-wheel drive system. Also, the 4Runner offers various off-road-focused models, including the TRD Pro, TRD Off-Road, and TRD Off-Road Premium.

Features in the 2023 4Runner 40th Anniversary Edition

To mark 40 years of adventures, Toyota will offer a limited-availability 2023 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition model, which is based on the SR5 Premium grade. The 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition stands out with its retro-inspired yellow/orange/red body graphics. Also, it features “bronze-colored 17-inch alloy wheels, a body-color-matching TOYOTA heritage grille, and a bronze-colored 40th Anniversary exterior tailgate badge.”

Inside the cabin, the 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition has unique badging on the center console, bronze-colored seat stitching, 40th Anniversary floor mats, a bronze-colored cross-stitch shift knob, and a 40th Anniversary logo on the Black SofTex-trimmed seats. Also, the limited-edition SUV has a standard power moonroof.

Exterior paint color options for the 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition include Midnight Black Metallic, White, and Barcelona Red Metallic. As a nod to the 40-year milestone, Toyota will sell only 4,040 units of the 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition.

The SUV competitors of the Toyota 4Runner include the Honda Pilot, Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer, Ford Bronco, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, and Hyundai Palisade.

Along with the 40th Anniversary Special Edition model, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner offers newly standard blind-spot monitor and cross-traffic alert driving assistance features for all trim levels.
