Critics and owners don’t always see eye to eye. Still, it’s always highly recommended you check out what the experts think before investing a vast amount of money into something as integral to your life as an automobile. Consumer Reports uses a lot of owner input when making decisions, especially when it comes to luxury sedans. In the case of the BMW 3 Series and the Genesis G70, the review site believes we’ll love them as much as they do.

How does Consumer Reports predict owner satisfaction?

When checking the predicted owner satisfaction score, you may wonder how Consumer Reports comes to this conclusion—especially if it concerns a luxury car. In this case, Consumer Reports asks owners what they think using a survey.

There are four major areas the review site wants to hear about. The first is the driving experience. This includes how the vehicle handles when accelerating.

The second is about comfort. For luxury sedans, this is a biggie. No one wants to spend a large amount of money on a vehicle only to be surrounded by hard plastic and lumpy seats.

The third deals with styling. This involves both the exterior and the interior.

Finally, Consumer Reports wants to know if an owner would purchase the vehicle again. If the answer is no, then the score will drop considerably.

If not enough owners respond to the survey, then Consumer Reports will base the owner satisfaction score on a similar vehicle.

2022 BMW 3 Series is a great compact luxury sedan

In the compact luxury sedan segment, the 2022 BMW 3 Series is ranked in fifth place by Consumer Reports. The Tesla Model 3 took the number one slot, while the Alfa Romeo Giulia and the Genesis G70 followed closely on their wheels.

The 2022 BMW 3 Series received very high scores from owners regarding the driving experience and styling, which is no surprise since it is a BMW. Where it failed to shine as much was in the area of comfort. The score wasn’t bad, but it was lower than some rivals.

The value is where the 3 Series fell from grace in the eyes of owners. Less than 50% of respondents said they would recommend it again. Despite this, the 2022 BMW 3 Series managed to maintain a high score.

2022 Genesis G70 is another excellent compact luxury sedan

Genesis is the luxury brand of Kia, and it shows with the thoughtful little details scattered throughout like easy-to-use controls and standard advanced safety features. Consumer Reports ranked it as number three in the compact luxury sedan segment, and it seems that many owners tended to agree.

They made their approval clear regarding the styling score, which was almost perfect. The rest of the scores weren’t nearly as stellar.

The driving experience and value were decent enough but left much to be desired. Consumer Reports agreed. In the road test report, the review site criticized the G70 for the long stopping distances and the fuel efficiency, which couldn’t compete with some rivals.

Consumer Reports was also less than pleased with the lack of space in the back and made it clear that adults will feel less than comfy back there. Once again, owners seemed to agree, as comfort was the lowest rated area for the G70.

That said, Consumer Reports was highly pleased with the overall drive. However, the biggest reason the 2022 Genesis G70 earned respect was with the price. It starts at $33,775 and tops out at $54,750, making it one of the cheapest compact luxury sedans you can buy brand new.
